The Future of Transportation

September 26, 2007

I remember when I was in Europe that I travelled on every mode of transportation possible. Plane, bus, train, car, bike, ship, and yes, good ol’two feet of mine. What completely impressed me was the train systems linking all over Europe. Fast, mostly on time, fastidious with their passenger checks and clean, I found it a dream to move around Europe without much problems. (Possibly helped that I was a girl, had a Singaporean passport and gave my biggest smile to everyone on the train so that I did not get myself into trouble anywhere). I loved my trip from Nykoping, Sweden to Copenhagen, Denmark. There was a short 5 hour direct express train but in the interest of saving money, I took a 3 change train which arrived in  9 hours.  I made a  lot of boo boos, like fumble around and get on the wrong carriage (i was nearly in tears knowing that the next train was in 5 hours, the train inspector calmed me down and let me travel 1st class!) and panic too much cos the trains were delayed, making me miss my connection (the lovely train conductor made an announcement to me over the PA system in the train to calm down and listed a couple of possible alternatives to take… haha!) I also completely enjoyed using my Eurail pass to seamlessly zip around Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France.

Another thing I noted about these railway systems is that the operators are looking to improve them consistently. I have watched programs on the french channel TV5 on improvements to the TGV system and the testing procedures they have for their trains to be consistently faster. So I read with great interest the latest trains to hit Munich and perhaps Europe in time to come. The maglev system that the trains work on make them faster than the usual electric trains. Eliminating friction… Awesome!

Yes I am a nerd some times. Skipped my EDA class today to chill at home. No more eyebags. Shal, if you remotely read this.. I love you loads. Thanks for listening to me yesterday!

Do the adoring men suddenly make you believe in the effects in Reversa?

Does Alicia make you wanna be a vegetarian?

  1. The ‘Core’ Reason: A strong midsection helps your entire body function in everything you do from exercising to sitting at your desk at work.
  2. The ‘Disease Fighting’ Reason: Studies have shown that individuals with a large waistline (stomach obesity) have the highest chances of developing fatal diseases, like heart disease.
  3. The ‘Aches and Pains’ Reason: Your midsection can absorb stress and strain from the activities you do. Furthermore, strong abs can help put an end to back pain.
  4. The ‘Gotta Get Your Z’s’ Reason: Obesity, particularly abdominal and upper body obesity, is one of the most significant risk factors for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) – a condition that can cause a person to stop breathing for short periods of time during sleep.
  5. The ‘Aesthetic’ Reason: Let’s face it — Tight abs are hot.

I guess its sweet? Nothing I haven’t seen in a hindi movie already but I guess it’s nice to know that we all think of love and sacrifice in similar ways.
